23A must - ripping current depending on when you go though. Definitely don't be too cool for the guide ropes; even an experienced diver can get rolled in the washing machine current and lose their way.
Fast moving water, only good swimming and be prepared to cut yourself a few times, is worth the view if you risk it.
Amazing place to dive and explore the underwater and abovewater caves. Be careful at what time you go as certain times in the day when the tidal currents are strong it can be a challenge to enter or exit the grotto.
Great fun for the whole family. It seemed scary at first, but it's really an easy place to snorkel.
This place was very cool. We could see the moon through the hole in the top of the cave. The sunset lighting was amazing and the water was very calm. We were lucky that it was not crowded either!
Dont miss out. Anchored my dinghy right up front at low current, swim in out the back and all the way around back to the dinghy. If current is strong go in and out the front.
What a awesome place. The snorkeling there is beyond awesome. If you have the opportunity don’t pass it up. It’s worth the trip.
Went just after 9am on high tide. Reasonable current running thru. Fins required. Not enough sun to aluminate all the colours but the fish are varied and abundant
What an experience. I recommend wearing a life vest if you are no a strong swimmer. The current can get rough.
A must-see place for sure. Tons of fish swimming around inside, and just keep your wits about you, as the current can be fairly strong at times. Definitely advisable to take full snorkel gear & fins. One of the best things we saw in Exuma without question.
One of the most amazing sights ever.once you're in, you're surrounded by fish, coral, rock structures, and sunlight rays poking through the openings on the roof. Highly recommend checking the place out.
This place is amazing. We actually struggled at first to find the way in as we went at nearly high tide, but then some people popped up at the side of us and it all became apparent. Once inside it is fantastic. More fish than I have ever seen. Strongly recommend fins as the current is strong getting from the boat to the rock.
3 rd trip to Thunderball Grotto and it was beautiful, I’d suggest going in July for the best weather
Cool spot for snorkeling. We went when tide was a little higher than planned so the current was pretty strong. You enter the cave / grotto on one side and swim into the large opening. You are able to swim to the sides to get out of the current and take pictures. There is also a lower cave in the back that offers some reprieve from current. You exit close to where you came in but then swim through a little passage and come out on the other side. We went w teens / tweens and they were perfectly ok. Watch your head and enjoy!
Amazing snorkeling spot, sea-life and coral system almost as good as Sea Aquarium Exumas (just north of Staniel Cay), watch out for current! At 2pm there was no one around.
Wow! A must see for any trip to Staniel cay. Be sure to plan your visit for low tide. As soon as the tide begins to come in, the current become seriously treacherous. Also be aware that the current in the anchorage at Thunderball grotto reverses.
Know how to swim. Best time low to slack tide. Strong currents. Fins necessary and booties if climbing.
It surpassed my expectations. I enjoyed it more than the Blue Grotto in Capri or the Green Grotto in the Amalfi coast because O was able to snorkel. The luminescent waters and the fish beyond belief. It is a most and I will come again.
Beware going at high tide, as the entrances are underwater and the tide is ripping, a potentially dangerous combination. Consider approaching from the less used northern side, although the entrance may be a bit more daunting-looking to weaker swimmer.
This is an legendary place near Staniel Cay. The James Bond film for which the grotto was named and several others movies were filmed here. There are a few entrances to the grotto, all of which require swimming, some underwater. Once inside, the grotto is spectacular. There are lots of fish in the corners and crevices. Make sure to explore the smaller but more beautiful grotto on the Southwest corner of the main grotto. Try to visit in the late afternoon once the tourists have left. Thunderball grotto must not be missed when visiting the Exumas.
